AEROPLANE CHILD is a unique little book, one that is difficult to classify and that is part of its charm. Larry Don Cornell Sr. has created an explosion of colors, form, ideas, rhymes, and joys an put them into a book format - a format that could just as easily be viewed on a gallery wall. There really i no story to tell here - no beginning, middle or end - but instead this is a recreation of the exhilaration of flying and as such it is meant, it seems, to tickle the imagination of everyone who reads it aloud.For adults this journey into strange meter and rhyme and juxtaposition of colors suggests the magic of the aurora borealis. Yes, on almost every page is an image that relates of 'aeroplanes' and the words address the views form above and the sense of floating in 'not-earth'. There is so much for the reader to absorb in color and shape and sounds, but it seems that more important is the stimulus to the child who benefits form a parent's reading of the shared excitement of art - art of words, of colors, of imaginations. 'The flying machine that streams to the dreams and reams to the breams that cream the regimes on the teams behind the scene gleams to the hems and the airstream by the beams of gravity weems the air machine back to the dream.' This one phrase is one page, the text superimposed upon a bifurcated rainbow, leaving the image of the aeroplane absent, replaced by the rush of the words and colors.
